Trees and Reflection Groups

We define a reflection in a tree as an involutive automorphism whose set of fixed points is a geodesic and prove that, for the case of a homogeneous tree of degree 4k, the topological closure of the group generated by reflections has index 2 in the group of automorphisms of the tree.

Nonpositive Curvature and Reflection Groups

Introduction. A space is aspherical if its universal cover is contractible. Examples of aspherical spaces occur in differential geometry (as complete Riemannian manifolds of nonpositive sectional curvature), in Lie groups (as Γ\G/K where G is a Lie group, K is a maximal compact subgroup and Γ is a discrete torsion-free subgroup), in 3-manifold theory and as certain 2-dimensional cell complexes....

On Reflection Length in Reflection Groups

Let W be the Weyl group of a connected reductive group over a finite field. It is a consequence of the Borel-Tits rational conjugacy theorem for maximal split tori that for certain reflection subgroups W1 of W (including all parabolic subgroups), the elements of minimal reflection length in any coset wW1 are all conjugate, provided w normalises W1. We prove a sharper and more general result of ...

Finite Unitary Reflection Groups

Introduction. Any finite group of linear transformations on n variables leaves invariant a positive definite Hermitian form, and can therefore be expressed, after a suitable change of variables, as a group of unitary transformations (5, p. 257). Such a group may be thought of as a group of congruent transformations, keeping the origin fixed, in a unitary space Un of n dimensions, in which the p...

Enumerating projective reflection groups

Projective reflection groups have been recently defined by the second author. They include a special class of groups denoted G(r, p, s, n) which contains all classical Weyl groups and more generally all the complex reflection groups of type G(r, p, n). In this paper we define some statistics analogous to descent number and major index over the projective reflection groups G(r, p, s, n), and we ...
